Her Story
Dee Yates – the epitome of California cool, with a knack for immortalizing the brightest moments of life through her photography, writings, interviews and artwork. A native Californian through and through, Dee radiates the warmth and vibrancy of her home state. She's a multifaceted gem-A devoted mother, loving wife, caring daughter, a timeless artist and creator, savvy entrepreneur, dedicated gardener, farmer, and advocate for wellness and tradition.
Opening her first studio in 2000, Dee embarked on an odyssey to document a diverse array of life's scenes. From the tender moments of nuptials to the intimate essence of boudoir, from the zest of food photography to the vast landscapes, Dee's photographic journey has spanned the spectrum. But her wheelhouse really developed while capturing women in their natural state, unbounded and genuine. Dee possesses the extraordinary talent to uncover the authentic narrative of each woman, transforming each work into a powerful, standalone narrative.
Dee's talents caught the eye of, then Editor-in-Chief of HERLIFE Magazine, in 2012. What started as a professional collaboration quickly blossomed into a deep friendship, paving the way for Dee to eventually helm the magazine as its owner and editor-in-chief. Amid managing her photography studio, tending to her farm, and steering the magazine, Dee never lost sight of a passion project that tugged at her heartstrings – a desire to shine a spotlight on the Cowgirls of the Golden West.
Driven by her Western roots, Dee embarked on a mission to document the life and style of Cowgirls. She delved into their world, capturing their stories, families, horses, and most importantly, THEIR STYLE. This labor of love culminated in a book – a vibrant collection that offers a glimpse into COWGIRL CULTURE. After pouring her heart and soul into this project, Dee is thrilled to share it with those that want to celebrate the heritage of the West with her, and is available now to add to your library.
